    what is a friend

    What is a Friend (v.a.d)

    What is a friend?
Someone who will be there when your broken heart is to mend
A friend will be there for you when life is getting you down
They always will turn your frown upside down because a smile is better than a frown

    When your ill
A friend is better than any tonic or pill
we Hold friendship deep in our heart
Because We are best of friends and will never ever part

Friendship can be simply explained like this
Forever in each others hearts to stay greeting with a hug and a kiss
Roses are red in their flower bed
Ice is cold to touch enough there is said

    Each and every day
Never to part like twins I’d say
    Doubt’s we share too
    Sticking together like glue

    Hello is our daily greeting
I look forward to our eventually meeting
Pleased we are the best of friends please never doubt that
We are ready to help each other out at the drop of a hat

    Music (poem)

    Music (v.a.d)

    When I hear music play
I can't help myself I have to along with it sway
Its like there is freedom in my soul
hearing music always gets its goal

dance to the beat of music it sounds so sweet
kicking off my shoes I'll dance in my bare feet
When you hear the music play
can't help myself along as I've got to sing and sway

Its like there is a gypsy in my soul
hearing music it always gets its goal
In your home you freely dance along
Singing along as you do your housework to the radio to your favorite song

There is freedom in my soul
Hearing music as it always gets its goal
Doing a dance you can do no wrong
Singing along with your favorite song

    Faith (poem)

you got to have faith as well as hope

through whatever life gives you you can cope

to pray a little each day

helps no matter what anyone does say

no matter what happens have faith and hope

they  really help you to cope

god does all this to test you  for a reason

spring or fall whatever the season

faith can move moutains with a little help from hope

with whatever life gives you you  learn how to cope

pray a little at the end of the day

say thank you lord for my friends as they do help me no matter what they say

    Bank Holidays (poem)

    Bank Holidays (v.a.d)

Dodgems speedway  being kept busy no time for boredom to strike so we don’t moan

The fairground has a smell it has all of its own

We have Broke up from school its bank holiday time again

Each day mum turns religious as we hear mum pray when do they return to school please god please tell me when

    Walking to see a friend

Hopeing each day won’t be our holidays at an end

    Fishing  and never being trouble

Why our holidays went  so quick almost at the double

    Skipping playing with a hoop

Soon be time for school again can I develop an illness maybe a cold if I try hard enough maybe even the croop

Seaside days out or a run in to the lakes

my memorys of bank holidays they were such lovely breaks

    sunset colours (poem)

    Sunset Colours (v.a.d)

the sky is a delight to see

it looks like its on fire to me

firey flames of amber and red

watching the scene as I sit upon my bed

    golden glow on the tree

green grass grows all around free

sleepy cattle lay down in their field

big black shadows almost looking like a shield

colourful flowers stay open in the reddish glow

a slight breeze blows them to and fro

    sleepily looking upon the scene

I wonder if ever a more lovely sight has ever been

    escape (poem)

    Escape (v.a.d)

from the stress'es and strains of life

I long to escape for one brief moment of being a mother and a wife

but when I do get the chance

I don't want to go out to a dinner and dance

its odd when I get the chance of a break

it feels to me wrong its a mistake

there are 24 hours in a day

and I love every moment of them come what may

for a break a short escape yes I do long

but when we get the chance of one why is it to me it feels so wrong

    when my family is asleep

the silence is golden as at each child I do count my blessings as I take a peep

    Dad (farthers day poem)

I lost my dad 7 years ago in feb to cancer but I do still think of him everyday not just farthers day. have a great farthers day when it comes and  enjoy your dad for as long as you can ok. Valx

    Dad (v.a.d)

As you count your blessings one by one

Just one person ,a man will shine out like the sun

He has been with you through the good time’s and the bad

Children you do know this man he`s called your dad

Now his hair maybe more silver than gold

This makes his wife and family love him all the more if truth were told

Now dad is a good bloke

And the muscle’s in his arm’s are as strong as oak

Dad does have a lion’s strength and pride

You can see this when he gaze’s at his wife and family on his face is a grin a mile wide

All I can say is may god bless dad

Because his wife and family know he is a caring, loving man and the best friend you ever had

    Holiday (poem)

    The golden field`s of corn

Look like patches against the green on a sunny morn

This scene make`s me feel how lucky we are

As each day we travel in the car

the Mountains look so far way

We love the countryside as we  are on our holiday

Our holiday will end soon alas and alack

But one day we will be back!

    We have enjoyed our holiday

Now we must pack and be on our way

We don`t want our holiday to end

As we’ve enjoyed our self’s and met some people to call a friend

for now we say Goodbye to the land of heather

So lovely it looks no matter what ever the weather

Midges do give a nasty bite

But who could forget a lovely sight

    Display

its been lovely hot weather in cumbria recently but even doing the gardening was such an effort to do
I wrote this poem after cutting some flowers from our garden to brighten up our house a little.

    Display (vad)

its so hot outside in the garden today

but those lilacs I've cut have made a fine display

in my basket I have roses white in full bloom

really do have a lovely perfume

my hat I have placed on the table

I will move it after I've had a cold drink then I'll feel more able

the flowers make a beutifull picture together

I really do not like all this hot weather

the colours go well in the display

yet how I wish it would cool down a little today

my hat I must place back up on my head

then back for more flowers in the garden I will tread

    I Recall

I wrote this about an ex-nieghbour friend of mine when she had to leave her familys home because she could no longer manage on her own and went into a home (she has sadly passed away now Sadmay god bless her as she was so lovely. ) take care of yourselfs love and hugs Valxx

    I Recall (v.a.d)

I looked at the flowers gaily blooming in the garden as the old cat sniffed at one
the climbing frame that I remembered  kids playing with and  yet by tomorrow it would be gone
as the sun shone so brightly  my memorys of being a mother came back
but soon I’d be moving from this house as there is only me and the cat now alas and alack

smiling as I sit in my chair as I recall
the love we shared in this house and our kids playing outside with that red ball
you left me because god called you to him
I’d visit to tell you I still love you but as I grow older my balance is upset and my eyesight is  dim

I do still recall your smileing face
I remember those days  in the garden where  our children did race
I move into a cosy home tomorrow because I know those days will to me never come back yet I know I won’t be alone
I still have our old cat to comfort me and one of our kids at the other end of the Phone

    Clock of Time

    CLOCK OF TIME (v.a.d)
    Tick-tock-tick
the clock of time go`s so quick
    first a baby in mum`s arm`s
    next a young lady,with all her charm`s

    tick-tock-tick -tock
next step to my ageing was danceing to rock
    where does the time go?
no use asking me because I  just don`t know

they say that the sand`s of time they do run slow
for me they never seemed too that I do know
    tick-tock-tick
my clock of time has gone so quick

    tick-tock-tick-tock
on the clock of time  sometime`s I feel I want to put a lock
now I'm a mum and soon one-day I`ll find my first gray hair
as with all my age,s in time I  don`t feel as if I care

    Elvis

I do love music and from the day I heard this man sing as a child in a film on tv I was a fan and still am a fan of his today, and I have written this poem as my tribute
    to Elvis Presley.

    Elvis (v.a.d)

Elvis I remember your good times and your bad
when you died I felt like I'd lost the best friend I'd ever had
how I loved to hear you sing  mama liked the roses because you loved her so
and now you have gone it is a big blow

you had a voice that was from heaven sent
and I guess to meet your mum  that was where you went
I remember your joy that day when Lisa Marie was born
it truly was a blessed morn

with a song a joke and the curl of your lip
I for one loved your shakeing hip
how I wish you were here but there is one thing I can do
Elvis and that is I will  still  remember you

    Forever Young

    Forever Young (v.a.d)
I`ve  got  wrinkles on my furrowed brow
I did not have them before but they are here now
    mirror mirror on the wall
I was young once I seem to recall

sometimes I do feel like I'm liveing in the twilight zone
yet I really do not want to moan
like a song so finely sung
in my heart  I am forever young

when people look at me they seem to forget
I was once young and I am still young yet
in my heart I feel full of go
its just my body can sometimes let me down so

life go's on and I am liveing yet
my family and freinds love me and so does my little pet
like a song so finely sung
in my heart I will remain forever young

    Snakes

I must admit Snakes make me shudder as I am not keen on them and its strange but I wrote this poem about them after watching a wildlife tv proggramme.

    SNAKE.S (v.a.d)

Sleeping curled together in a knot

keeping warm while the weather is not that hot

snake`s have not got slippery skin

its dry to the touch its better not touch them so you can`t win

the boa constrictor will give you a friendly hug

and will squeeze the life out of anything that is the rub

the rattlesnake will warn with a little rattle

it is always`s ready for a battle

the cobra is dangerous when the hood is shown

an adder’s bite could kill with poison  and it does freely roam

now the grass snake is harmless as it`s a lizard not a snake

remember this for your own safety  and a sleeping snake please do not awake

    Mouse

    MOUSE BY V.A.D
    Mouse(v.a.d)

has anyone seen me?no, not yet!
small and furry and brown a mouse and not a pet
scampering picking up your crumbs off the kitchen floor
keeping an eye out for a cat, while I collect some more

    you`ve set traps for me
I just cheekily pinch the cheese out of them for my tea
with  whiskers quite long, and my nose atwitchin
roaming around your floor in the kitchen

what ever is that big furry thing?  oh god its a cat!
    well I don't fancy that
what big ears it has, and long whiskers too
it looks so big,it should be in a zoo

its eyes are so funny, they`re green
oh god they are glinting  what does that mean?"
    running  quite fast
there is my mousehole I`m safe at last
    April 12

    Swan

    Swan (v.a.d)
I am a sight to see
on the river I proudly arch my neck and for food I will glide to thee
just look at me I am a proud one
swimming glideng through the water a lovely white swan

ruffled feathers to smooth my long neck I will bend
a proud bird the queens special friend
my brown fluffy feathered cynets around me I will keep
if they get slightly lost they have a funny way to call me can you hear them ?peep, peep, peep

when my babys get tired onto my back they go
I'm giveing them a ride and they look out through my feathers at you shakeing my head proudly I just don't know
please don't walk near my nest my babys to see
because my mate he's called a cob is really protective of his family

    Fox (poem)

    FOX (v.a.d)
I`m not sly though there is a saying that say,s I am
if I was would I be in this jam?
all these dog,s and people on thier  horse
"hhh-mmm, where can I hide? in that barn of course"!

who would miss a rabbit,  hen or duck?
    "yum, no-one with anyluck"!
bright eyed  my ear s all alert
I`ve got a snarl that can sound rather curt

ever on the lookout for a rabbit or a hen
I get lucky now and again
"ho-ho, now i can have some fun"
bang! that`s a shot from the farmer`s gun!

trot back to my mate ,the vixen with my catch
in her I`ve met my match
just a bushy tailed fox red is my fur colour small as a dog
I`ll hide behind that log, and watch as the hunters gallop by
then  twitch my ear,s as they go in full cry
